What Mary Has to Say! – Sept 2021

Hi everyone!

Here is my latest update:

Wow, what a wonderful weekend I have just had spectating at the Bicton 5* event. I had to judge the best turned out and conditioned horse at the first vets inspection with Vicky Goody, from Clippersharp who were sponsoring this prize. James Avery’s horse looked magnificent and was the well deserved winner. I also hosted an official xc course walk on the Saturday morning before the start, which I did in aid of Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital Charity for whom I am raising funds by running in this years London Marathon (I have have been training for the last 5 months…running every 3rd day and so far so good!) The marathon is on October 3rd and I would appreciate any support pleeeease!! I have a Justgiving page – to donate go on to the Just Giving website and search ‚marykingmarathon‘ and follow the instructions.

Gemma Tattersalls had a fabulous win with Chilli’s Knight with whom I felt quite a connection. I bred his mother ‚Kings Gem‘ and produced her to 4* level, then sold her to Gemma’s owner Chris Stone. As well as competing her successfully they bred from her and Chilli’s Knight was Gem’s second foal…so a fantastic result for their team.

My young ones have been continuing to progress well. I have sadly just sold King Cyrus…it is especially sad selling a homebred, but I needed the money to be able to buy hopefully two 3/4 yr olds later this year.

Barry (Kings Belief), 4 yr old homebred, who I backed last year, is now in work again continuing his education. He is out of Kings Tempress by Cevin Z and is such a lovely easy friendly young horse. He had his first set of shoes on and I’m now hacking him out on his own, and have started a bit of easy school and pole work. I’m looking forward to starting to event him next year!!

Vinnie (King Vincent), who is a yearling and is Tess’s last ever foal is looking fantastic. I’m quite tempted to keep him entire (not castrate him) and breed from him to keep Kings Temptress’s line going, but I’ll wait and see if he stays easy to handle…so far so good!

Best wishes

Mary
