Winter Update – Emily King
I’ve had a fantastic winter training in Germany with the legendary showjump rider Marco Kutscher. I took my top horse Dargun out with me, and I worked and rode for Marco in return for receiving training. It was an incredible experience, Marco is such a master and total perfectionist, so it was fantastic working alongside him everyday and receiving invaluable training from him. I feel Dargun and myself both learnt a huge amount.
I was very lucky to spend my Christmas on the white, sunny, shores of Antigua… which was just incredible, but also quite surreal! Mum very adventurously sailed the Atlantic with several of our good family friends… so my family flew out to the Caribbean to greet her at the end of her voyage! She said it was a fantastic experience, siting several pods of whales, schools of dolphins and flying fish landing on deck… she feels that she has satisfyingly ticked it off her bucket list!
The horses have all enjoyed a much deserved winter holiday and are now all back in full work, becoming fit and beautified ready for the season ahead! They will spend January doing road work up and down the Devon hills slowly building and tightening their muscles in preparation for their galloping, flat and jump work in Feb. I have two exciting new rides for this season – Amadeus (Amme) who is a lovely 7 year old, bay, gelding and Quinlan Z (Quinn) who is a beautiful 6yo, grey, stallion. Quinn has successfully showjumped the Young Horse classes with his previous rider James Wilson, so he’ll be starting his new career this season, which so far he’s taken like a duck to water! Amme has also showjumped a fair bit and done a little small level eventing…. so he, as well as Quinn will be making his BE debut this spring. So it will be exciting seeing how they both progress!
Thank you all once again for your continued support and fingers crossed for a successful 2017!!
