October Update – Emily King
So unfortunately the Young Rider European Championships did not go to plan. Dre travel led out to Motelibretti well, but sadly a few days into his arrival he showed some signs of not being 100% fit to compete. Obviously our horses health is the first thing on our mind… so the decision to withdraw him before the trot up was made. It was devastating, as I felt we both had a really good chance of a top result… but heyho, at least it isn’t anything serious and we will be back to fight another day!!
I had a quick turn around from Rome, to Lingnieres the following week, in France… where I was competing Cooley Currency in the CCI**. He was fantastic and did his best test at this level, to score 43 which put him in 7th place. He then did a beautiful clear cross country inside the time, followed by a great clear showjumping on the final day to move us up to 5th! I was over the moon with him as it was a very competitive class with Michi Jung giving his two Pau CCI**** horse their final prep run… so it was great to see how he fared against top CCI**** horses! He’s a very talented horse, but has just been slightly quirky through the Spring as we’ve been getting to know each other… so It was great to feel what he’s really capable of and hopefully it gave us a taste of what’s to come!
My season has come to an end now, so we turn all of the competition horses out to rest until January 1st… to wind down and enjoy a well deserved holiday! I have a lovely new 6yo (Amadeus) and a 3yo (Hugo) who I am training throughout October along side our other younger home-bred horses. I then leave for Germany at the beginning of November to train out there until Christmas, which is very exciting!
Fingers crossed for more luck in 2017!!!
