My ‘autumn’ (saw my first ripe blackberry today 🤦♀️) event season begins this Sunday at Moreton HTs. The horses had a well-deserved holiday during the few weeks in June while I was away. I’ve since picked up their work, increasing their fitness and went jumping at Bicton BS, last week and this week, and had a lovely little whizz around Pontispool XC schooling course yesterday, to make sure I (and the horses!) could remember what to do!! Thank goodness the rain has come to soften the ground.
My autumn programme until the end of August:
- Sun 16th July – Moreton
- Sat 29th July – Dauntsey
- Fri 11th Aug – Aston Le Walls
- Tues 15th Aug – West Wilts
- Sat 19th Aug – Launceston
- Sun 27th Aug – Wellington
Vinnie my homebred 3 yr old, who I had castrated after collecting semen from him in May, is feeling VERY proud.
His first dose of frozen semen produced an embryo from Mellow Lane (Emily’s mare). It happened so quickly and smoothly that we decided to AI her again, and she produced a second embryo 💪💪👏👏. Huge thanks to Twemlows…fingers are crossed that the recipient mares hold the embryos and that we have 2 baby Vinnies next year!🤞.
I’ve been working away with Vinnie and Dermot (4yrs). Vinnie lunges well now and I’ve taken him for short hacks with another horse. It took a month for his testosterone to wain post-castration. He is now turned out with others and is very well-behaved.
Dermot is progressing well, hacking on his own through the woods, up and down banks, and a little bit of arena work.
Logic’s rotary topper and tine harrow have been put to good use. I killed off all the docks that were sprouting up a couple of months ago, with the handy Logic sprayer I have fitted on the quad bike, and I managed to roll the paddocks before the dry spell… the results are very tidy weed free paddocks 👏👍😍
